Chinese RV makers are carving out a lucrative niche market for their RVs with a big price tag. RVing in China is still a new concept. There’s a lot that needs to be done before a more RV friendly infrastructure is in place to accommodate market growth. The RV makers, however, do not want to wait. They are pursuing non-traditional RVers – early adopters who use RVs for business purpose.
King Long, a luxury coach manufacturer, has been showing its “VIP Business Coach” at shows and attracted great interests among business owners. According to King Long, the coach is built as a mobile office, with advanced communication systems onboard. Business owners can also entertain clients in class and have private meetings in its spacious lounge. The coach is retailed for 3 million RMB (approximately $450,000).
Luxury imports also show early success with business owners and celebrities. Currently there are very few high-end RV manufacturers in China. People look to imports to fill the void. American RV makers, including Winnebago and Country Coach, have sold their high-end units to China. Given the sheer number of potential non-traditional RV buyers, there are tremendous opportunities for foreign companies. |
