China’s First Ever All RV Trade Show Brings Industry Together to Meet Demand and Spur GrowthShanghai (October 25, 2007) – Booming economy, leisure time, outdoors, vacations… Chinese are spending more on traveling. More disposable income and more vacation time have helped drive the demand for more lifestyle choices. RVing in China, believe it or not, is becoming reality, according to industry experts and the organizers of China’s first-ever all RV trade show - China RV and Camping (RV China) to be held May 16-18, 2008 in Shanghai. “The popularity of spending leisure time away from home continues to show strong growth as more families opt to take advantage of the three ‘Golden Week’ officially promoted by the government to encourage spending,” says Hao Zhang, General Manager of Youyuan which is one of the RV China organizers. The travel industry has really benefited from the three 1-week long public holidays (Chinese New Year, May Day, and National Day). Although the traditional vacation types, such as airline plus hotel, are still the main choice when it comes to vacations for Chinese, more and more people choose to drive to vacation destinations since more families own cars now in China. “It’s sort of DIY vacationing - people drive to campsites, set up their tents, enjoy the great outdoors, and not to worry about catching flights and booking hotels. If RVing is more readily available, this same group of population would be a good candidate for RVers,” says Zhang. The fact that sold out was widely reported at RV rental outlets during the holidays in recent years has confirmed this. China’s RV industry is challenged by the increasing demand. Short in history and largely developed out of vehicle conversion business, Chinese RV manufacturers is facing tremendous growth opportunities and yet hindered by factors such as underdevelopment of RV parks and campgrounds, ambiguity about regulatory compliance, lack of industry standard and enforcement, lack of manufacturing know-how, and consumer education and awareness. RV China provides an opportunity for policymakers and business leaders to meet and address these issues. Being the first all RV trade show in China, RV China is a unique opportunity for international RV manufactures, suppliers, and campground operators. “Whether it’s marketing and selling RVs to China, establishing production capability in the country to take advantage of the market demand, developing RV parks here, or simply sourcing from China, RV China is a must-see event. You want to be here to show what you have. You want to be here to learn about the opportunities. There’s certainly first-mover advantage in this business, and you want to be here at early stage when you can help shape the industry. You don’t want to find out later on that you have to make a lot of changes to adapt to China’s requirements. Now you can have your influence,” says Zhang, citing some European RV makers’ early entry benefits.
